Our Publications

The publishing activity of the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences dates back to the 1950s, when the Department of Geophysics was established. Initially, publications were limited to selected issues in the field of seismology, physics of the Earth's interior and Earth magnetism.

Currently, the Institute carries out a wide publishing activity, editing and publishing independently or in cooperation with other renowned publishers (mainly Springer International Publishing) three main titles.

The first is the Acta Geophysica magazine (bimonthly), published jointly with the Geophysics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, in cooperation with Springer International Publishing. Acta Geophysica has been published since 1953 (until 2005 as Acta Geophysica Polonica). Despite the passing decades, the goal formulated in the first issue is still valid:

‘contributing to the development of geophysics in Poland and promoting the exchange of our scientists' achievements with scientists from other countries’.

The second position is the series Publications of the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences (previously: Materials and works), which filled the gap related to the need to publish scientific monographs, conference materials and measurement results from observatories, disseminated as separate bulletins. The series was started in 1972 by Prof. Roman Teisseyre, who is currently the Honorary Editor. In 2017, the series received the following subtitle: Geophysical Data Bases, Processing and Instrumentation.

The third title, created at the Institute and published by Springer International Publishing, is the GeoPlanet Book Series. It is a highly appreciated series of geophysical monographs, created in 2010 as a continuation of unique monographs by employees of the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, published by leading Polish and foreign publishers. The series is also a continuation of the monographic volumes Publications of the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences. The section editors of the GeoPlanet Book Series represent 5 scientific institutions of the Polish Academy of Sciences that make up the GeoPlanet Consortium. All editorial work, reviews and linguistic proofreading are carried out at the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

All the articles and other publications of the Institute's employees from the period from 1953 to 2003 have been included in detailed bibliographies contained in the following editions of Publications of the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences:

  • Vol. 73 – years 1953-1972;
  • M-4 (138) – years 1973-1978;
  • M-14 (232) – years 1979-1988;
