GEOPHYSICAL OBSERVATORY IN THE DOLNOŚLĄSKIE VOIVODESHIP

The seat of the observatory is located at the Książ castle in Wałbrzych. The observatory registers and interprets seismic events.

In order to ensure uninterrupted measurements of seismic activity in the region, the measuring equipment is installed at a depth of approx. 49 meters below the main courtyard of the castle, in the underground corridors built during World War II.

The Seismological Observatory in Książ uses type STS-2 and SM-3 seismometers. It also holds back-up seismometers of the GS-13 and BB-13 type. The data are registered both in the digital and the analogue form.

The observatory in Książ is part of the Polish Seismological Network. The data are continuously transmitted to the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences, in Warszawa. Twice a week, preliminary studies are sent to the European and the World Seismic Data Centers.
