After China, it was time for another Asian direction – India, the NGRI (National Geophysical Research Institute) in Hyderabad, in the state of Telangana in southern India. At the invitation of the NGRI authorities and Professor Harsh Gupta, IG PAS was represented in India by Professor Beata Orlecka-Sikora, Head of the Seismology Department, and Ms Anna Leśnodorska, Director of the TCS AH Consortium.

On February 3, 2026, the public defense of Izabela Nowaczyńska’s doctoral dissertation entitled  Identification of Characteristic Features of Seismic Processes as a Tool for Differentiating Tectonic Phenomena from Human Induced Events took place at the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw.

On 27th January 2026 took place another seminary in the Institute of Geophysics PAS.The seminar was devoted to the presentation of selected topics from the long-term collaboration between colleagues from Department of Seismic Research and JAMSTEC, focusing on crustal-scale seismic imaging.

We are pleased to introduce Eslam Mohamed, a PhD candidate at the Seismic Research Department, Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences, GeoPlanet Doctoral School & SEG of Exploration Geophysicists Vice President at IG, PAS.

In early December, a delegation of the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences visited the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, where a two-day workshop entitled “Extended Full Waveform Inversion” was held on December 2-3 in Mumbai, India.

“Without predictable investment in infrastructure and support staff, it is extremely hard to develop strong research environments” – says Prof. Paweł Rowiński, IG PAS Director and ALLEA President in his talk with Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ (MTA) representatives.

On November 17 and 18, we welcomed special guests at the Institute – five representatives of the Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute (CRSRI), including the CRSRI Vice-President Prof Yao Shiming and the Director of the Department of River Research Prof Jin Zhongwu.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sylwia Dytłow from the Department of Magnetism at the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences, has been invited to join the Editorial Board of the prestigious international journal Scientific Reports, published by Nature Portfolio. 

On 14 October 2025, the inauguration of the 2025/2026 academic year at the GeoPlanet Doctoral School took place.
