The Editorial Office of the Publications of the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences, is pleased to announce the publication of a new volume in the Polar Research series (Vol. 456, P-6), authored by Prof. Tomasz Janik, entitled Six of My Polar Expeditions with the Institute of Geophysics PAS in 1975-1991.
This publication offers a unique overview of 6 polar expeditions organized by the Institute – 2 to Spitsbergen and 4 to West Antarctica. The author takes readers on a journey through more than 15 years of research conducted in two of the world’s most challenging and remote regions, presenting not only the scientific aspects of these expeditions but also the realities of everyday work under polar conditions.
The volume is much more than a collection of photographs and personal recollections. It is also a valuable testimony to the history of polar research conducted by the IG PAS, enriched with contributions from fellow expedition participants, archival materials, and information documenting the activities of the Department of Lithospheric Seismic Research in polar regions. As such, it provides readers with a deeper understanding of the scale of the Institute’s research endeavors and the dedication and effort of the people who made them possible.
