The Editorial Board of “Acta Geophysica” kindly informs that as of 01.03.2024 there will be a change in the role of the editor-in-chief of “Acta Geophysica”, the flagship journal of our Institute. This role will be assumed by Prof. Michal Malinowski from the Department of Geophysical Imaging of IG PAS, who is simultaneously employed by the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK).

It is with deep regret that we inform you that on December 28, 2023, at the age of 87, Prof. Ph.D. Aleksander Guterch, an outstanding geophysicist, a long-time employee of the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences passed away.

This September dr Wojciech Gajek started fieldworks within FROST: Fibre-optic sensing towards the improvement of environmental monitoring in Svalbard. The project was funded by SIOS (RIS ID 12246).

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Artur Marciniak, a researcher from the Department of Geophysical Imaging IG PAS, has been awarded the prestigious Visegrad Group Academies Young Researcher Award 2023.

The inaugural lecture of the 2023/2024 academic year, titled “Poles together – missing link between Arctic and Antarctic early Earth record“, will be given by Prof. Monika A. Kusiak (Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences). The inauguration of the academic year will take place on October 12, 2023 at 11 a.m., at the Institute of Geophysics and online (hybrid event).

We are pleased to announce our two new training activities within Geo-INQUIRE (Geosphere Inrastructures for QUestions into Integrated REsearch). The training courses are open to everyone and free of charge.

The Polish Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences in the United States have selected 18 Ukrainian research teams from various scientific disciplines to receive financial support of up to about $200,000 per year in period up to three years. Among the winners is geophysicist Ksenya Bondar, whose project will be carried out at the Department of Magnetism IG PAS.
