We are pleased to announce that the article by Prof. Mariusz Białecki entitled Simple Rules of a Discrete Stochastic Process Leading to Catalan-like Recurrences published in the March issue of the scientific journal Algorithms (MDPI) has been highlighted as the title story.

Algorithms is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal publishing research on the analysis and applications of algorithms across a range of scientific and technological disciplines. The journal was established in 2008 and is published by MDPI.

Prof. Mariusz Białecki, Professor at the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences (IG PAS), has developed his ability to safely navigate the abstract landscape at, among others, the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw (PhD), the Department of Mathematics at the University of Tokyo (post-doctoral fellowship), and the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences (habilitation). His research focuses on nonlinear dynamics, discrete mathematics, and the application of mathematics to the modelling of complex physical phenomena. His interdisciplinary approach, combining deep theoretical insight with practical applications, is reflected in his publications and work on research projects.

In the article Simple Rules of a Discrete Stochastic Process Leading to Catalan-like Recurrences, Prof. Białecki presents a method for generating recurrence relations by specifying evolution rules for a discrete dynamical system. The paper demonstrates that various recurrences from the Catalan numbers family can be derived using combinatorial analysis from a single stochastic process governed by relatively simple rules for group merging and splitting.

We warmly congratulate Professor Mariusz Białecki on this distinction and encourage you to read the publication!
