Schools closer to the world of science

The Institute has been involved in popularizing science and sharing its knowledge for years. Among its tasks, educational activities occupy an important place – both through organizing its own initiatives and cooperation with other institutions that deal with the popularization of science. The Institute not only conducts research, but also ensures that its results reach schools, teachers and students in an interesting and accessible way.

The Institute has been conducting intensive educational and science popularization activities for many years. The most important of them include:

  • coordination of the nationwide EDUSCIENCE project (Human Capital Operational Programme, 2011-2015), which was used by over 3,500 schools throughout Poland (from primary schools to high schools and technical schools). The final products of EDUSCIENCE were: an innovative e-learning platform containing a database of over 15.5 thousand educational resources and tools for creating interactive materials, crosswords and mind maps, a nature portal with interesting facts from the world of science and blogs of scientists, methodological support for teachers, programmes of educational trips to scientific institutes and observatories and a programme of nationwide environmental monitoring.
  • coordination of the European project EDU-ARCTIC (Horizon 2020, 2016-2019), which was implemented by teachers from 60 countries around the world, taking part in online lessons, a nature monitoring system and Arctic competitions,
  • coordination of the European project ERIS (ERASMUS+, 2015-2018),
  • coordination of the European project ODYSSEY (ERASMUS+, 2018-2021),
  • coordination of the European project BRITEC (ERASMUS+, 2018-2021),

  • participation in educational projects of the ERASMUS+ School Education program: POLAR STAR (2019-2022), Digi-Science (2020-2022), Carbon Act (2023-2025),
  • cooperation with the European Schoolnet (a consortium of European education ministries) as a Scientix National Contact Point. Scientix is an online collaboration space for teachers, scientists, decision-makers and other specialists involved in teaching science subjects, providing resources and best practices that support the development of innovative and activating teaching methods and support the growth of students’ interest in studying science and related subjects.
