On 12 May, a lecture was held at the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences, given by Professor Donald Dingwell, a world-renowned scientist and Professor of Mineralogy and Petrology at the University of Munich.
The lecture, titled “Geomaterials: From Experimental Geoscience to Geoengineering on the Moon,” was the inaugural talk in the GeoPlanet Distinguished Lecture Series. The meeting was opened by Prof. Paweł Rowiński, Director of the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Donald B. Dingwell is known for his experimental research on silicate melts, magma, and volcanism. He is an author of around 600 publications. He has received numerous international awards and honorary doctorates from UCL, the University of Alberta, and UNAM. He is a member of several prestigious scientific academies and has held key leadership roles in EGU, IAVCEI, Academia Europaea, and the European Research Council.
GeoPlanet – the Earth and Planetary Research Center – is a consortium established in 2009, comprising five institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences: Space Research Centre PAS, Institute of Geophysics PAS, Institute of Geological Sciences PAS, Institute of Oceanology PAS, and Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Centre PAS. The Chair of the GeoPlanet Council is Professor Paweł Rowiński, Director of the Institute of Geophysics PAS.
