Research conducted by Dr. Sylwia Dytłow from the Institute of Geophysics PAS has been recognized as one of the four most interesting and media-impactful contributions out of 20,000 submissions to the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2026 – one of the largest scientific conferences in the world.

The researcher is the only Pole and representative of a Polish institution invited to participate in the prestigious press conference during this year’s EGU edition, which will take place on 3–8 May 2026, in Vienna, Austria.

Nearly 60 journalists from the world’s most influential media outlets and organizations, including NASA/JPL, The New York Times, The Guardian, Nature, BBC, Forbes, and Reuters, have already registered for the EGU 2026 press conference. The full list of accredited media is available at: https://www.egu.eu/gamedia/2026/registration/who-is-coming/

Dr. Sylwia Dytłow commented on this distinction:

I will not say anything groundbreaking, I am simply very happy. Such moments as publication acceptance or media highlights are the rewarding finale of our everyday, frequently painstaking research efforts.  I take immense joy in what we do. For me, this event is also an opportunity to show a wider audience, including the media, what the work of a scientist really looks like, and how many non-obvious connections are hidden behind every result. I would like to thank everyone who supports me and is with me on this journey. I am glad that I can share my work with such a wide audience, and I hope that our results will be an inspiration to many

The press conference featuring Dr. Sylwia Dytłow will take place on 5 May 2026, at 10:00 CEST at the Austria Center Vienna (VIC Center) – the main venue of the EGU General Assembly – as part of the panel ‘The Anatomy of Emissions: Measuring Emissions from What We Wear, Cook, Drive and Breathe Before It Is Too Late.’

The EGU General Assembly gathersgathers around 20 to 21 thousand scientists from over 120 countries every year. In the 2025 edition, the conference attracted a total of 20 986 participants.
