Professor Witold Strupczewski Passed away

We regret to inform, that Professor Witold G. Strupczewski passed away on 3rd September. He was 80 years old.

Professor Strupczewski, one of the most famous Polish hydrologists, was a co-author of the Polish Hydrological School. In 1960 he graduated from the Faculty of Water Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1972 he created the Hydrological Systems Laboratory at the Institute of Geophysics in the Polish Academy of Sciences, where he worked for over 45 years. During his long career he lectured hydrology at Polish and foreign universities. He was the author of many outstanding scientific publications. He specialized in statistical hydrology, hydrology of extreme phenomena and modelling of water flow in rivers. He was also interested in the history of Polish hydrology and was a well-known mountaineer. He continuously acquired knowledge which he willingly shared with others. His scientific enthusiasm and optimism seemed to infect all those around him. Despite illness, he has not given up and worked until his last hours.

We will miss him very much. He will remain in our memory.
