Physics of the Atmosphere - analysis of variability in the ozone layer and solar radiation in various time scales, atmospheric transparency, atmospheric electricity, thunderclud structure and lighting research.
Head: Prof. Janusz Krzyścin

Indepent Laboratory of Deep Structures – organization and interpretation of active and passive seismic experiments targetting the recognition of the Earth’s crust and upper mantle in Central Europe, Arctic and Antarctic.
Head: Prof. Aleksander Guterch

Magnetism – development of magnetotelluric research methods, numerical modelling of electromagnetic induction processes within the Earth, regional Earth’s crust structure studies, paleomagnetic investigations and the study of magnetic properties of intrusive and sedimentary rocks.
Head: Dr. Waldemar Jóźwiak

Geophysical Instrumentation – two closely cooperating teams, one dealing with electronics and software, the other with hardware, whose aim is to design and build unique research equipment, mainly for the needs of seismology and magnetism.

Hydrology and Hydrodynamics – transport and mixing of pollutants in surface waters, flood wave transformation modelling with the use of hydraulic and hydrological models, flood risk modelling implementing the newest statistical extreme events methods, climate changes. Polar Research – organization of polar expeditions, analysis of geophysical data obtained at the Polish Polar Station in Spitsbergen, study of abiotic changes of natural environment in polar regions.
Head: Assoc. Prof. Piotr Głowacki

Seismology and Physics Earth`s Interior - analysis of earthquakes and mining-induced quakes, seismicity of Poland, study of structure and geodynamics of the Earth’s crust and upper mantle on the basis of deep seismic sounding and natural seismicity.
Head: Prof. Stanisław Lasocki

Information and Editorial Officethe main publication is the bi-monthly journal Acta Geophysica (a continuation of the quarterly Acta Geophysica Polonica, issued in the years 1952-2005). It is now co-published by the Springer and Versita publishers (with suport of the Committee of Geophysics PAS).
