Seismic events
Seismic monitoring network registers a lot of seismic events from all the Earth. Though, the goal is the local seismicity investigation. One of the most seismically active areas in Poland is Podhale, Carpathians. In the past there occurred some seismic events at magnitudes much higher than M=4, which were felt by inhabitants and caused some building damages. Such big events are rare, but our study shows significant activity of the region. Since June 2008 we have detected 22 events on the Podhale and vicinity. None of them was strong enough to be felt by people. The map below shows locations and some details of twelve seismic events, which took place on the Podhale between June 2008 and May 2009.
Yellow stars – location of events listed in the table on the right. Red star – location of the event of magnitude M=4.6, 30.11.2004.
