Investment

In the years 2001-2005 on the basis of Decision 3813/IB/35/2001 of 27.02.2001 KBN fund "Modernization of Poland the Polish Polar Station" the following tasks were carried out:

  • Task 1

Reconstruction of the wastewater treatment system and water supply
- completed the installation of water transport from seasonal intakes and from snow and ice melting to the livelihoods (kitchen), hygiene facilities (bathroom, toilet), and scientific laboratories,
- completed the installation of sewerage,
- running a modern sewage treatment plant in place of the old sewage disassembled in 1987,
- replacement of water reservoir used for storage and snow and ice melting

  • Task 2

Modernization of magnetic houses
- modernization of container-houses built in 1978 where magnetic measurements are conducted

  • Task 3

Establishing of satellite connection
- In 2002 permament digital and phonic connection was established. IRIDIUM satellite communications system provides communication with groups in other regions of Spitsbergen through mobile terminals.
- In 2005 satellite Internet connection was provided - EUTELSAT provider.

  • Task 4

Installation of fire alarm

  • Task 5

Reconstruction of the fuel supply system
- Installation of modern fuel supply system providing a high level of ecological security. It consists of:
tanks for diesel fuel with a total capacity of 125 000 l,
- gasoline tank with capacity of 6000 l, - a with a pump control systems,
- pipeline to the power generators,
- outgoing fuel unit in the power generators building,
- 4 transport tanks with a total capacity of 20 000 l for disembarking of fuel

  • Task 6

Reconstruction of the power network
- Replacement of the old power generators from 70's
- Installation of heat recovery from the exhaust and cooling system of power generators, resulting in decline in electricity use.

  • Task 7

Amphibian trucks
- Obtained two tracked amphibian trucks PTS-M and adapted them to use in polar conditions.
The use of PTS amphibian trucks significantly reduced the time of embarking and disembarking of the ship

  • Task 8

Construction of food warehouse
- New building with an area of 200 m2 was constructed, it is connected to the main station building and used for the storage of food, equipment, weapons, potable water and as a cold storage.
- Existing storage adapted for laboratories and socio-residential rooms. There are 15 new residential places, 3 laboratories and sanitary facilities

The station currently meets the requirements of interdisciplinary projects for the 4-International Polar Year 2007-2009.

In 2007 another project was completed - the construction of experimental ecological installation for the disposal of waste (Decision No 4994/IB/35/2005).
